Job Summary
Lead credit risk strategy, portfolio performance management and business intelligence delivery to drive sustainable growth, profitability and portfolio quality.
Provide data-driven recommendations directly to senior leadership, influencing portfolio decisions, credit policy, pricing strategies and business performance across the organization.
Oversee analytics, credit performance monitoring and BI teams while ensuring business decisions are supported by accurate, timely and actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead weekly, monthly and quarterly credit portfolio performance reviews and reporting.
- Analyze portfolio trends and identify drivers of credit performance deterioration or improvement.
- Develop and implement corrective actions to improve portfolio quality and reduce risk exposure.
- Collaborate with Fraud, Collections, Finance and Sales teams to evaluate portfolio performance and operational effectiveness.
- Represent the credit function in regulatory matters and manage credit bureau-related decisions.
- Develop pricing strategies and payment plans that balance portfolio growth, profitability and credit quality.
- Evaluate credit assumptions supporting new products, payment plans and commercial initiatives.
- Forecast the impact of credit initiatives on unit economics, margins and business performance.
- Lead delivery of Business Intelligence (BI) capabilities and analytical reporting for the Kenya business.
- Set standards for data quality, reporting governance and metric definitions.
- Partner with data, engineering and technology teams to improve data availability, accuracy and reporting efficiency.
- Build analytical models using multiple data sources to improve credit decisions and business performance.
- Design experiments, analyze outcomes and translate findings into actionable recommendations for executive leadership.
- Lead, mentor and develop analysts and analytics managers.
- Conduct field visits to gain customer insights and understand borrower behavior in real operating environments.
- Prepare executive-level insights, reports and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Actuarial Science, Data Science, Computer Science or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
- Professional certifications such as CFA, ACCA, CPA, FRM or equivalent are desirable.
Experience
Extensive experience in Credit Risk Management and
Portfolio Analytics within financial services.
Experience in consumer lending, digital lending, fintech, PAYGO financing or related emerging market credit environments is highly desirable.
Demonstrated success managing portfolio performance and influencing business outcomes through data analytics.
Experience leading Business Intelligence, Analytics or Data Science functions.
Proven ability to manage and develop analysts and analytics managers.
Experience presenting recommendations and insights to executive leadership teams.
