Responsibilities

- Under the supervision of the UNEP UN-REDD Programme Coordinator for the Africa region, the Safeguards Analyst will:
- Review national policies, laws and regulations relevant to REDD+ safeguards in the supported countries.
- Draft technical notes, background papers, summaries and briefing materials.
- Conduct analysis of safeguards gaps and alignment with UNFCCC Cancun Safeguards, ART-TREES and other relevant frameworks.
- Document and systematize safeguards tools and guidance materials.
- Maintain organized digital repositories of country safeguards materials and instruments as well as regulatory frameworks.
- Organize safeguards-related workshops, webinars and knowledge exchange events.
- Engage and ensure full support follow-up communications with implementation partners and national consultants working on safeguards.
- Qualifications/special skills
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s) in environmental science, natural resource management, international development, forest policy, social sciences or related fields.
- A first-level university degree in the above-mentioned fields, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience, will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.
