Original source description
SumsPOS is Kenya's merchant data and financial infrastructure layer, built on top of a point-of-sale platform SMEs use every day. Every transaction captured on SumsPOS feeds a credit underwriting engine that gives informal and formal SMEs access to capital they've never had on terms that reflect their real cash flow, not just their collateral.
SumsPOS
is a platform that helps small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) manage their sales through a point-of-sale (POS) system. The sales data collected helps businesses qualify for financing based on their actual business performance rather than relying only on collateral.
The MSME Relationship Officer is the human face of that thesis. This is a merchant acquisition and account-growth role where the officer's job is to bring MSMEs onto the platform, build trust with business owners, and grow each merchant's transaction volume and credit eligibility over time, because volume and data depth are what compound into value, for the merchant and for SumsPOS.
The
MSME Relationship Officer
is responsible for bringing new businesses onto the SumsPOS platform, building strong relationships with business owners, and helping them increase their sales through the system. As merchants transact more, they become more eligible for financing, creating value for both the business and SumsPOS.
You will be judged on active, transacting merchants and their growth trajectory, not just signed-up devices. Success in this role is measured by the number of active merchants using the platform regularly and the growth in their transaction volumes—not just the number of businesses registered.
Description
What You'll Own
Merchant acquisition:
Identify, pitch, and onboard MSMEs (target segment: ~KSh 500,000+/month turnover) onto SumsPOS, completing onboarding in under 12 minutes per merchant using the standard workflow.
Relationship management:
Create and own your portfolio of merchants end-to-end. You are their primary point of contact for the life of the relationship, not just the sign-up.
Volume and retention growth:
Drive daily active usage of SumsPOS by merchants in your portfolio; reduce churn by proactively solving problems before merchants disengage.
Credit pipeline support:
Help merchants understand how consistent transaction data translates into credit access via our banking and lending partners and support the underwriting handoff.
Field intelligence:
Feed back merchant behaviour, objections, and competitive intelligence from the informal credit and digital lending landscape to product and growth leadership.

Manage a defined geographic or sector route (e.g., butcheries, wines & spirits, salons, hotels) with a disciplined weekly visit cadence.
