Junior Developer

International Supply Chain Solutions is seeking a dynamic and career-driven Junior Developer to join its technology team. The successful candidate will work under the Senior Developer to maintain and improve existing applications, develop new features, conduct testing, document code and participate in product development activities.

This is a hybrid, full-time opportunity suitable for a junior developer with strong practical programming skills, a willingness to learn and the ability to work effectively within a professional development team.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Junior Developer will support the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of the organization's software applications. The position requires someone who can work across both frontend and backend technologies and take ownership of assigned development tasks from implementation through testing and documentation.

Working under the guidance of the Senior Developer, the successful candidate will be expected to understand existing application architecture and codebases, identify areas that require improvement and contribute to the development of reliable and maintainable software solutions.

The role involves working with React JS on the frontend and Python, Django and Django REST Framework (DRF) on the backend. The developer should be comfortable working across the full technology stack and should have an understanding of how frontend interfaces communicate with backend services and APIs.

The Junior Developer will also participate in the complete software development lifecycle. This includes understanding requirements, implementing features, writing tests, debugging issues, maintaining existing functionality and documenting development work. The successful candidate should therefore have a strong understanding of software development practices and be able to produce clean, structured and maintainable code.

A key responsibility will be taking ownership of assigned features and ensuring that they are completed within the required timelines. The developer will be expected to communicate progress, identify challenges early and work closely with senior developers and other team members to deliver quality solutions.

The position also requires an understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and the ability to write appropriate tests for new features. Testing will form an important part of the development process, helping ensure that new functionality works as intended while reducing the possibility of introducing defects into existing applications.

The Junior Developer will participate in product testing and demonstrations. This may involve presenting completed features to relevant team members, receiving feedback and making necessary improvements before features are released. The developer will also assist in maintaining existing applications by troubleshooting problems, fixing bugs and improving code where necessary.

Documentation is another important part of the position. The successful candidate will be expected to document code and development processes clearly so that other developers can understand, maintain and build upon existing work.

The role also requires an understanding of containerization, which is increasingly important in modern software development and deployment environments. Candidates should therefore have practical knowledge of container-based development and understand how applications and their dependencies can be packaged and managed consistently across environments.

AND QUALIFICATIONS

B+ and above in KCSE.

Diploma or Degree, preferably in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Self-taught developers with strong practical skills may also be considered.

Proficiency in React JS.

Proficiency in Python, Django and Django REST Framework (DRF).

Understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD).

Ability to work as a full-stack developer.

Understanding of containerization.

Strong software development and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to interact professionally with senior management.

Strong willingness to learn new technologies and development practices.
