The mission of WHO in the area of transplantation is to meet the requirement of the fifty-seventh World health Assembly resolution WHA57.18..
Objectives can be summarized as follows:
To work with Member states and to provide assistance at their request to ensure effective national oversight of allogeneic and xenogeneic transplantation activities. This would ensure accountability, traceability, and appropriate surveillance of adverse events (in particular transmission of infectious agents of xenogeneic origin);
To increase access of citizens to safe and effective transplantation of cell, tissue and organ. Additionally, to ensure ethical and technical practices of the procurement of human material for transplantation to the follow-up of recipients and live donors;
To promote international cooperation to encourage the global harmonization of technical and ethical practices in transplantation. This would include the prevention of the exploitation of the disadvantaged through transplant tourism and the sale of human material for transplantation.

The "Clinical Procedures" unit in the Department of Essential Health Technologies is responsible for promoting the appropriate effective and safe use of cell, tissue and organ transplantation. This includes the surveillance of risks particularly in xenotransplantation. This department is also responsible for ensuring efficacy, safety and equity in the provision of clinical procedures in surgery, anaesthetics, obstetrics and orthopaedics particularly at the district hospital level.
Context
Under the guidance of the Operations Officer, the National UNV (WCO/Kenya) performs technical, client service, advisory, and capacity-building functions within the scope defined by ITM strategies, policy guidelines, programme objectives, and relevant WHO operational frameworks. Under the direct supervision of the Manager of the Information Technology Management Unit, and with a high degree of independence, the incumbent provides authoritative services and technical support to WHO offices across the sub-region in the areas of information and communication technologies.
The role requires extensive and ongoing engagement with the ITM team, as well as with clients at the IST and Country Office levels. Successful achievement of the objectives and expected results requires extensive communication and collaboration to provide end-users with authoritative advice, technical expertise, and appropriate ICT solutions.
The National UNV ICT Focal Point will be responsible for managing the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Unit of the WHO Country Office and providing ICT support to staff as required. In addition, in the capacity of Asset Management Assistant, the incumbent will be responsible for managing and controlling the assets of the WHO Kenya Country Office, ensuring proper records, accountability, and compliance with established asset management procedures.
Task description
Under the supervision of the Operations Officer, the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) is responsible for the following duties:
• Manage daily activities of the information technology (IT) team, ensuring service requests are attended to.
• In coordination with the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, administration, and reliable operation of the Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) infrastructure in compliance with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
• Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, administration, and reliable operation of the managed workstation environment, data centre server farm, and data storage areas within the country.
• Manage, support, and maintain collaborative tools, such as SharePoint and other online video conferencing platforms.
• Implement and ensure appropriate processes for data protection, backup, disaster recovery, and failover procedures are in place.
• Responsible for security and cybersecurity processes and procedures and ensure prompt remediation of discovered threats and vulnerabilities.
• Develop and maintain appropriate documentation and policies related to end-user support and infrastructure. Provide internal training and support to staff on the use of computer hardware, software, and IT-related services/tools.
• Collaborate with IT colleagues in the WHO Regional Office and other country offices as well as WHO Headquarters (HQ) for regional and global IT projects as necessary.
• Support physical inventory of all capitalized and expense assets, reconciling them with the Fixed Asset Register, and assist in preparing discrepancy reports and follow-up reconciliation actions.
• Identify and document staff-assigned assets not reflected in the register. Assist in drafting disposal plans for review and prior approval. Receive, record, and ensure safe custody of new capitalized and expense assets into the Global Service Management (GSM) system and assign asset numbers and bar codes.
• Review and update inventories for both capitalized and expense assets in the GSM registry (custodians, locations, and status: active or inactive). Facilitate signing of custodian forms by staff for all assets in their possession. Monitor asset conditions and escalate irregularities to the Asset Manager. Organize and support preparation of the annual Fixed Asset Certification report.
• Perform other duties as required.
