UNMAS is seeking a Chief of Section to lead the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Threat Mitigation Advisory Team (TMAT) based in Nairobi. The postholder will provide policy guidance, oversee advisory and training activities, manage staff and resources, engage with Member States and donors, and represent UNMAS in international fora to advance global IED threat mitigation efforts.
Responsibilities
- Policy & Strategy
- Provide guidance on IED and explosive ordnance threat mitigation.
- Lead conceptual strategy development and management of implementation.
- Programme Implementation
- Oversee advisory, training and capacity development activities.
- Ensure adherence to international standards and UN policy.
- Manage and supervise Section work programme and outputs.
- Partnerships & Resource Mobilisation
- Engage with Member States to build partnerships.
- Raise funds, track expenditure and submit reports.
- Provide substantive input for reports to intergovernmental bodies.
- Administration & Staff Management
- Prepare budgets, allocate resources and monitor performance.
- Recruit, train and evaluate staff, ensuring gender and geographical balance.
- Foster teamwork and communication across boundaries.
- Representation
- Represent UNMAS at inter‑agency meetings, seminars and technical fora.
- Produce briefs and presentations for stakeholders.
- Convene and participate in international and regional meetings on explosive threats.
