Job Purpose

Our client in the money transfer business is looking to onboard a Business Development Officer who will be responsible for identifying and converting new business opportunities to grow their customer base, transaction volumes, and revenue. The role will focus on acquiring corporate and individual customers, developing agent and institutional partnerships, supporting the growth of remittance corridors and strengthening existing customer and partner relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, pursue and convert new business opportunities among corporates, SMEs, institutions, organisations and other customers with international payment needs.
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of prospective customers, agents and commercial partners through research, networking, referrals and other approved business development channels.
  • Assess prospective customers’ payment needs and present suitable services through meetings, proposals, quotations and presentations.
  • Coordinate the onboarding and activation of new customers and partners with the relevant internal teams.
  • Deliver agreed customer-acquisition, transaction-volume, revenue, account-activation and retention targets.
  • Identify, assess and support the development of relationships with agents, financial institutions, payment providers and other commercial partners.
  • Manage assigned customer and partner relationships, understand their changing needs and identify opportunities to increase transaction frequency, value and use of the client’s services.
  • Monitor customer and partner performance and coordinate the resolution of commercial, operational or service-related issues affecting the relationship.
  • Research remittance flows, customer demand, competitor activity, pricing and payment options to identify opportunities within existing and potential remittance corridors.
  • Support the assessment, development, implementation and monitoring of approved remittance corridors, products and commercial partnerships.
  • Gather and analyse market, customer and competitor information and recommend improvements to the client’s products, pricing, services and customer experience.
  • Support marketing campaigns, business forums, industry events and other activities aimed at reaching priority customer segments and markets.
  • Maintain accurate and current records of leads, customer engagements, proposals, conversions, account activity and partner performance.
  • Prepare timely business development reports covering pipeline progress, customer acquisition, transaction volumes, revenue, market developments and performance against assigned targets.
  • Ensure that business development activities and commercial commitments comply with company policies, approved terms and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the compliance team to support customer and partner due diligence, KYC and AML/CFT requirements, and escalate suspicious activity or other compliance concerns through the appropriate channels.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of customer, partner and company information.
  • Perform any other duties relevant to the role as may be assigned
  • Academic & Professional Qualifications and Experiences Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, Finance, Economics or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in business development, sales, account management or partnership development, preferably gained within money transfer, payments, banking, foreign exchange, fintech, telecommunications or another regulated financial-services environment.
  • Key Skills and Competencies
  • Exposure to international payments, cross-border transactions, foreign exchange, agent networks or remittance-corridor development would be beneficial.
  • Basic understanding of the Central Bank of Kenya requirements applicable to money remittance providers.
  • Working knowledge of KYC, customer due diligence and AML/CFT requirements.
  • Good understanding of customer acquisition, consultative selling, account development and relationship management.
  • Strong prospecting, networking, presentation, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to identify customer needs and recommend appropriate payment solutions.
  • Good commercial awareness and the ability to assess the potential value of new business opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with customers, partners and colleagues.
  • Good planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage several business opportunities and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Self-driven and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with other departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace and experience using CRM or sales-tracking systems.
  • Must have high standards of integrity and ethics.
