Legal Operations Associate – Programs providing execution-focused legal support across contracting, regulatory compliance and policy implementation, requiring a Bachelor of Laws degree or a degree in Commerce or Business Administration with contract management experience, in an NGO environment, on-site role.
About This Role
Our client is a non-profit organization seeking a Legal Operations Associate, to provide execution-focused legal support closer to our Program and Country teams. The role is anchored in contracting and other high-volume legal workflows, while also supporting local regulatory processes, recurring legal and compliance requirements, policy implementation, records, and follow-through.
This is not a Counsel role. You will work within established frameworks and under Counsel direction, helping routine legal work move efficiently from request through completion and surfacing issues that require legal or compliance judgment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support contracting and recurring legal workflows
- Manage routine contracting workflows, including preparing agreements from approved templates, gathering inputs, coordinating internal review, and moving agreements through signature and filing.
- Maintain relevant contract, legal, and entity records and ensure routine matters are documented and closed out consistently.
- Coordinate with Country and Program teams to gather information and documentation needed to progress legal matters.
- Identify questions that fall outside established frameworks and escalate them promptly to Counsel.
- Support regulatory and compliance execution
- Support registrations, renewals, filings, permits, and other regulatory processes by preparing documentation, tracking requirements and deadlines, and coordinating follow-through.
- Execute routine due-diligence and compliance processes within frameworks established by Legal Risk & Compliance, escalating issues that require judgment.
- Help maintain local trackers and records for recurring legal and compliance obligations.
- Support implementation of legal and compliance requirements in partnership with Counsel, Legal Risk & Compliance, and Country teams.
- Support policy and learning implementation
- Work with Country teams and HRMs to support rollout and implementation of organization-wide policies, learning, and guidance.
- Help identify where policies, processes, or guidance are not working effectively in practice and surface those issues to the appropriate Legal & Compliance lead.
- Act as a reliable local point of coordination for recurring Legal & Compliance processes without replacing substantive ownership held by Counsel or central functional leads.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university.
- Alternatively, Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Business Administration or related discipline, with a good understanding of contracts and experience in contract management or procurement related workflows.
- Additional training or certification in compliance, contract management, legal operations, or risk management would be an advantage.
- Experience in legal operations, contracts administration, program operations, compliance operations, or a comparable execution-focused role.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to move multi-step processes through completion with limited supervision.
- Comfort working with contracts, regulatory documentation, trackers, and recurring compliance processes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain reliable records and deadlines.
- Good judgment about when a matter fits within an established process and when it needs to be escalated.
- Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work effectively with Country teams, HRMs, and colleagues across functions.
- Ability to operate in a fast-moving environment and manage competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-volume contracting or procurement-related legal workflows.
- Experience supporting registrations, regulatory filings, due diligence, or policy implementation.
- Candidates with the right to work in Kenya and are available immediately are encouraged to apply.
