Min Qualification: Diploma Experience Level: Senior level Experience Length: 5 years Language Requirement: English Working Hours: Full Time - 8 to 5 Applicant Location: Kenya Job descriptions & requirements DETAILED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Ensures the safety of all employees through effective implementation of the Safety standards 2. Directs and supervises the operation of boilers, turbines, generators and related auxiliary equipment on their shift. 3. Coordinates with Engineering for the production of electrical power including hourly loading, unit start-ups, shutdowns, etc. 4. Analyzes, troubleshoots and corrects plant operating problems that arise from shift to shift which could affect safety, environment, reliability, and efficiency. 5. Ensures all operating problems are clearly described in sufficient detail to expedite repairs. 6. Coordinates work with maintenance and technical departments, both outage and non-outage. 7. Provides training on shift to ensure operators are competent in the performance of their job duties. 8. Supervise routine housekeeping duties as assigned by maintaining site tidiness and general good housekeeping throughout the plant. 9. Ensure reliable operational records are maintained and recorded for historical purposes and to document performance metrics for the plant. 10. Participate in mandatory training sessions related to Utility Systems. Act as mentor and conduct on-the-job training of personnel in the department. 11. Prepares daily reports of shift operations, facilitates the daily operations morning meetings of management staff and performs operating administrative functions on a shift basis. 12. Performs plant performance reviews daily, weekly & monthly including employee evaluation and administering manpower utilization. 13. Sets clear goals and standards for performance and holds assigned personnel accountable to achieve them. 14. Making job assignments, completing required shift documentation, and directing emergency response. 15. Respond to emergency situations immediately and work quickly to correct the problem(s). 16. Conduct planned and unplanned maintenance and reactive/life-cycle works in a competent, safe and efficient manner. 17. Oversee the operation of boilers/other machines in the plant. 18. Supervise operations of the feed hoppers, maintain the correct levels of fuel in the boiler hoppers, mix and level fuel in the log yard using front-end loader and observe the unloading of delivery trucks for unacceptable wood waste *To perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Management from time to time. ACCOUNTIBILITIES: • Direct and supervise operations of boilers and water heating systems • Oversee the maintenance activities of boilers • Plan and coordinate training of boiler operators COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Leads in EVS, Leads in HPC, Engineering Team External: none QUALIFICATIONS: Degree/Diploma in mechanical engineering, plant option EXPERIENCE: ▪ 5-10 years’ experience COMPETENCIES: ▪ Time management ▪ Good communication and interpersonal skills ▪ Ability to motivate employees ▪ Team player ▪ Planning and organizational skills ▪ Strong leadership skills and manpower planning skills ▪ Ability to use SAP, AUTOCAD. ▪ Proficient in MS Windows KPI/PERFORMANCE INDICATORS -(WHAT CRITERIA WILL BE USED TO ASSESS JOB-HOLDERS PERFORMANCE) • Constant Availability of steam • % reduction spares consumption • % energy savings • % decrease in boiler breakdown • Constant supply of biomass to the furnace • Traceability of records • Timely and accurate reports to the supervisor.
